Question of Power began in 2005. Question of Power tells: Human stories - how individuals, families, and communities are affected by the extraction, production, consumption, and waste materials of coal in the creation of electricity for America.

The photographic essays of Question of Power use traditional photographic documentary techniques of reportage, portraiture, and landscapes, with the addition of recorded audio interviews. Question of Power provides exhibits for colleges and universities, public lectures and World Wide Web media to educate and stimulate an awareness of these unrecorded human costs. The essays are syndicated nationally and internationally by Redux Pictures in New York. The map provides locations of current essays and new essays planned for 2010. Each location contains many human stories with unheard voices. Current essays may be viewed here. A blog has been created for "on the road" postings here.

Question of Power is a non-profit (501c3) project. The project relies on individual donors and foundations. The content is not influenced by special interests. The essays and issues advocate for positive social change. A photograph is a window, it can create a portrait, it can create awareness, it can educate, and it can create change.

be strong, be safe, Carlan
